eBay shares jumped 4.7% after announcing a partnership with Meta Platforms Inc. which will integrate eBay listings into the Facebook Marketplace. In the first stage, testing will take place in the USA, Germany and France, where users will be able to find eBay offers on the Facebook Marketplace and go to the eBay website to complete transactions. This strategic move follows the recent $840 million fine imposed by the European Commission on Meta for monopolistic practices related to the Facebook Marketplace. While Meta is challenging this decision, the company is also making efforts to eliminate the claims of regulators. The integration with eBay is designed to increase the reach of the Facebook Marketplace and at the same time provide eBay sellers with access to a wider audience. The European Commission has not yet commented on the new initiative, but the partnership is seen as a step towards solving regulatory problems and stimulating competition in the online trading market.
