The main events by the morning: June 14

• The G7 countries have reached a political agreement on Russian assets. This agreement concerns the use of only percentages of assets, and not their confiscation. The proceeds from the frozen assets of the Central Bank of Russia, estimated at $20 billion, will be used to secure a loan for Ukraine.

• The Bank of Russia cancels morning trading on the Moscow Stock Exchange. The Central Bank announced its decision to cancel morning trading sessions on the foreign exchange market, the precious metals market and the futures market of the Moscow Stock Exchange. From June 14, 2024, auctions will not be held until 9:50 Moscow time. The decision will be valid until further notice.

• Yemeni Houthis attacked a Ukrainian ship in the Gulf of Aden. According to the Central Command of the US Armed Forces, the Iranian-backed Yemeni Houthis launched two missiles, hitting the Ukrainian commercial vessel Verbena in the Gulf of Aden. A ship operated by a Polish company caught fire and one sailor was injured.

• Thailand has notified Russia of its intention to join the BRICS. The country's foreign minister said that Thailand, as an intermediary between different groups of countries, «could enhance the inclusiveness and interconnectedness of the BRICS,» as well as increase the effectiveness of the BRICS in promoting the interests of developing countries.

• Ukraine has signed the first contract in history for the supply of American LNG. It should replace Russian gas. According to the terms, the largest private electricity producer in Ukraine, DTEK, will begin to purchase LNG in an unspecified amount from Venture Global. The contract may last until 2026.
