EU studies measures to limit gas prices amid record growth

The EU is considering the possibility of temporarily limiting natural gas prices, which have reached record highs, creating serious economic challenges. The cost of gas in Europe is now three to four times higher than in the United States, which puts pressure on the region's industry. 

The reasons are a severe cold snap and weak wind, which limited the production of energy from renewable sources.

The European Commission plans to present a document in March that will propose measures to stabilize the situation, including support for energy-intensive industries. However, the discussion of price restriction mechanisms remains at an early stage. Industry groups have already warned about possible risks to confidence in the EU market.

A number of EU countries also express skepticism. Germany and the Netherlands, which traditionally oppose interference in market processes, have repeatedly objected to such measures. Their positions may become key in making a decision, given concerns about the consequences for the single energy market.
