Появились новые подробности о состоянии торговых переговоров Китая и США. Китайская сторона хочет, чтобы все тарифы США, введенные на ее товары, были сняты в рамках нового соглашения. Это замедляет переговоры, поскольку американские власти не хотят отказываться от единственного рычага давления на Китай.

Ранее большинство экспертов писали, что главной целью Китая на первом этапе соглашения было избежать введения новых тарифов 15 декабря, чтобы получить больше времени для переговоров об отмене остальных пошлин.

Китай до сих пор формально не прекратил переговоры, поэтому инвесторы сохраняют надежду на сделку. При этом торговая война между двумя крупнейшими экономиками мира дополнительно накалилась из-за нового законопроекта в США в поддержку Гонконга.
