Ранее было объявлено о планах приобретения активов компании CB&I Stone & Webster. Однако размер затрат на осуществление этой сделки оказались на порядок выше, чем ожидалось. Приблизительная сумма будет составлять несколько миллиардов долларов. В результате, стоимость акций Toshiba начала свое стремительное падение, опустившись на 26% до 232 иен. Последнее столь крупное падение стоимости было зафиксировано в 1974 году.

Снижение кредитных рейтингов компании вызывает беспокойство у руководства Toshiba. Отмечается, что убытки от списания столь больших сумм могут негативно повлиять на финансовые результаты компании.
