Премьер-министр Канады Джастин Трюдо считает, что позиция Вашингтона, состоящая в том, что импорт канадских товаров представляет угрозу национальной безопасности Соединенных Штатов, оскорбительна для Канады.

В эфире NBC он заявил, что сама идея о том, что Канада является угрозой национальной безопасности США, оскорбительна и неприемлема. Кроме того, премьер-министр подтвердил, что Канада вводит аналогичные пошлины на сталь и алюминий из Соединенных Штатов, а также пошлины на ряд потребительских товаров.

На этом фоне глава МИД Канады Христя Фриланд призвала власти США задуматься о том, какой сигнал они посылают своим ближайшим союзникам.

Ранее в пятницу, 1 июня, президент США Дональд Трамп заявил, что Канада «плохо относится» к сельскохозяйственному бизнесу США, и призвал отменить торговые барьеры в данном секторе.
