Unprecedented trade tensions have undermined confidence in the dollar, which has increased demand for alternative protective assets, said Liu Yuxuan, a precious metals researcher. The day before, US President Donald Trump announced an increase in duties on Chinese products to 145%. In response, China has taken similar measures, increasing tariffs on American goods to 125%.
