China urges the United States to abandon the use of tariffs as a tool of pressure in international trade. This statement was made by the representative of the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China, He Yadong. Earlier this month, US President Donald Trump approved duties of 25% on steel and aluminum imports and announced mirror tariffs for trading partners. In response, China expressed deep concern, noting that these actions could undermine the multilateral trading system, destabilize global supply chains, and create uncertainty in the international economy. Yadong stressed that trade based on the comparative advantages of countries strengthens the global economy and improves well-being. At the same time, he called the US policy an example of unilateral actions and protectionism. China has warned that tariff wars will not lead to winners and suggested Washington review its measures to find solutions through peer-to-peer consultations. Previously, tariffs were imposed: 25% on goods from Canada, 10% on energy products, 10% on Chinese products in excess of the current duties, and duties on goods from Mexico were temporarily suspended for negotiations.
