According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, an additional 1.371 million nonfarm jobs were created in the US economy in August. These figures are in line with analysts' expectations and are confirmation of the gradual recovery of the economy after the fall in the second quarter of the year.
The number of jobs in the private sector increased by 1.027 million, more than double the data from the ADP released on Wednesday (an increase of only 428 thousand). However, the latest data was below expectations for a 1.20 million job growth.
The total number of employed people increased by about 238 thousand, which is associated with hiring for the 2020 census.
The unemployment rate fell more sharply than expected to 8.4% after 10.2% in July.
