Nord Stream 2 AG, the operator of the «Nord Stream 2» project, announced that the last pipe of the second string of the pipeline was welded and the construction process has finally come to its end, despite all the difficulties and obstacles from the United States. At the next stage, the project expects the joining of the German section of the gas pipeline with the Danish one. After that, specialists will carry out commissioning work on the second string in order to put the gas pipeline into operation before the end of this year. Nord Stream 2 AG emphasizes that «Nord Stream 2» will help meet the long-term needs of the EU energy market for natural gas imports. In particular, the project envisages distilling 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year from the Russian coast through the Baltic Sea to Germany. Gazprom, the sole shareholder of the project, reported earlier that the total cost of the pipeline construction is estimated at 9.5 billion euros.
