Hungary is under the close attention of European countries and is becoming more and more «lonely» in the EU due to its growing contacts with Russia and the position it takes on some key EU issues. The Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, is known for his desire to become a link between the West and the East. However, his close contacts with Russian President Vladimir Putin raise concerns among some European leaders. Hungary's support of the Russian position on various international platforms is particularly alarming for many. The postponement of Sweden's accession to NATO also played a role in the growing isolation of Hungary. This event raised questions about the security of the EU member states, given Hungary's proximity to Russia. The results of the elections in Poland also influenced Hungary's position in Europe. European diplomats expressed their concern about Hungary's position, especially in the context of discussions with Ukraine. However, despite all these concerns, European officials do not believe that tougher measures should be taken against Hungary now. They do not see an immediate threat to the EU from the Hungarian government. Thus, for now Hungary continues its unique line of behavior in the EU, but future events may change this course.
