• Pavel Durov was detained by the French authorities at Le Bourget airport. French intelligence agencies accuse Telegram's founder of a lack of cooperation with law enforcement agencies and believe that messenger features such as one-time numbers and encryption can contribute to criminal activities, including drug trafficking, pedophilia and fraud. The founder of Telegram faces up to 20 years in prison.

• Pakistan may become a new long-term buyer of Russian LNG. The official representative of the Pakistani Foreign Ministry said that negotiations with Russia in the energy sector are going well, and now the countries are discussing the possibility of concluding long-term contracts for the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG). At the moment, Russia supplies oil to Pakistan, and, according to Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, 7 million barrels have already been delivered.

• De-escalation is ahead: new negotiations between Israel and Hamas took place on August 25 with the participation of the CIA, Qatar and Egypt. In this regard, Biden appealed to Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu with a request to withdraw troops from the border with Egypt in Gaza (Philadelphia Corridor) in order to promote a favorable outcome of the negotiations. Israel agreed. 

• The Russian quantum computing market may reach 6% of the global market by 2040. Reksoft Consulting predicts that the volume of the quantum technology market in Russia by 2030 may amount to 45 billion rubles. Currently, the development of this sector is mainly funded by the state, but private investment is expected to grow in the future due to the high demand for machine learning technologies.

• The US Treasury clarified the rules for the supply of Russian diamonds under sanctions. The sanctions will not apply to diamonds weighing from one carat and diamond jewelry exported from Russia before March 1, as well as diamonds weighing from 0.5 carats exported before September 1. These clarifications will allow traders to sell jewelry purchased before the sanctions were imposed.
